On the morning of September 18th, Oxford International School (OIS) welcomed the foundation Botellas de Amor with their partner Delux to perform an interactive workshop with some of OIS' young students as part of a new initiative to recycle plastic bottles. Other schools will soon participate, and whoever collects the most will win a prize of $5,000 for the collective of the school.
Botellas de Amor is an organization that established Panama's first facility for recycling plastic in the Panama Pacific region. This plastic recycling facility is the biggest in Central America and the first to use plastic wood to create furniture and houses for at-risk populations.
Fifth, sixth, and seventh graders were guided to the auditorium in order to participate in a challenging yet exciting obstacle course. The goal was to teach them that the activity was to kickstart Botellas de Amor’s recycling campaign at the school. The first challenge was to fill up a plastic bottle with other types of plastic. Then, they would jump over bars, which were then followed by a set of five squats. After turning five times, they would finish by jumping over the floats and placing the love bottle in the container.

The Botellas de Amor initiative consists of a contest between schools to see who can collect the most plastic bottles until September 24th. The school that collects the highest amount wins a prize of $5000. In order to participate, you must fill a clean water bottle with Unico and Delux plastics. Then it would be taken to the recycling center at the school, found at the entrance.

Throughout the event, the students’ enthusiasm was evident as they participated in the activity alongside their friends. Not only did they have fun, but they were also able to get a deeper understanding of the importance of recycling.
What a great way to start STEM Week!
