Oxford International School (OIS) just celebrated 36 years of teaching and providing bilingual education to children here in Panama. This institution has greatly shaped the students that have passed through its halls, and to commemorate the occasion, the school organized what is called “Spirit Week”, a week in which each day had a different theme that you could dress up as.

Starting on July 3rd, it was Anything but a Backpack Day, where students demonstrated their creativity by bringing the craziest objects as bags, such as coolers, floats, casseroles, pillows, and many others. It was followed by 80s Day to commemorate the decade of the school’s creation. Wednesday, June 5th, was Jersey Day, in which the students dressed in the jerseys of their favorite teams, from the Lakers to the Coyotes, the school's football team. The kids were wearing the jerseys of their idols, such as Messi, Benzema, and many more.
Thursday was Celebrity Day, where teachers and students dressed up as iconic celebrities, for instance, Freddy Mercury.
As for the little ones, going from PK to 5th grade, they had a few different activities, such as Crazy Hat Day. Not only were the students involved, though, but the teachers also demonstrated their creativity.
Some of the best-created hats were the ones with the students’ favorite superheroes or characters. Another activity they had was “Twin Day”, where students would choose a partner or coordinate with a friend to go to school dressed in an identical way as if they were “twins”.
To close off this great event, the school decided to celebrate Children's Day on Friday, July 7th, ahead of its actual date. This day was full of different activities through which everyone could have their fair share of fun. The eldest students, around 8th to 12th grade, played volleyball and football, with everyone cheering for their respective grades or friends.
The younger kids had other activities ranging from face painting to a bouncy house. However, everyone got to enjoy shaved ice and popcorn.

You could really see the enthusiasm of each child before closing the second bimester and preparing for exams. It was a great conclusion to the first half of the year and a great way to commemorate the institution that shapes these students.
Let's hope for many, many more years of celebrating this school and its students!
