But what is Sports Week? What is it all about?

Sports Week is an event held at the Oxford International School where students get the chance to spend a day playing sports-forgive the redundancy- and put their physical abilities to the test by participating in an exercise circuit. This is one of the most anticipated weeks of the year as the students are able to stand out in the sport of their preference and are filled with empowerment by being able to compete against the other classrooms, regardless of seniority.

We kicked off the activities on Monday with the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd grades.

The students started off by playing various games and doing physical activities. In these games, students learned skills such as teamwork and ambition as they practiced managing their motor coordination. All this was done with the help of all the teachers from the PE department and student volunteers who were part of the staff. In this activity, the cooperation that everyone had was just amazing, even with the younger kids, who worked together to achieve their goals.

On Tuesday, it was the 4th, 5th, and 6th grades' turn.

The students united in a vibrant display of team spirit, donning class-colored shirts and engaging in electrifying activities like football, basketball, and track events. Referees guided fair play, while remarkable sportsmanship and friendly rivalries shone on the field. A hula hoop challenge showcased teamwork, basketball matches dazzled with skill, and a sack race finale crowned the victorious white team. This day added to the fostered unity, camaraderie, and celebration that Sports Week aims to achieve.

Wednesday arrived, and it was the 7th, 8th, and 9th graders who had their chance to participate in the games.

These students were full of energy, extremely supportive, and looking out for each other the whole time. They screamed, laughed, and played as the teachers made sure the students were playing correctly while supporting them throughout the games. After having such an exciting time as a team, the teachers told the students to rest after performing so well. Despite being little, they showed the same amount of skills and enthusiasm as the older kids.

Before arriving at the end, on Thursday it was the 10th, 11th, and 12th grades turn.

This day saw the same activities being held, but this time with the oldest students of our school joining in on the fun. For 12th graders, it was a chance to reminisce and connect with a time when they had PE classes as a part of their weekly schedules.

There were many highlights from this day, one of which was the thrilling basketball game between 11.3 vs 12.2. There was a great back and forth between the two teams that even reached a score of 24 - 32 with the 11th team winning the game. Another exciting game was between 11.2 and 11.3, but this time in soccer, where it was basically Coyotes vs Coyotes. Though it seemed uncertain at the beginning, the 11.2 students won, as the 11.3 students lacked a goalkeeper.

After the pandemic, this was the first real sports week in which students were able to share the experience with other classrooms and grades. It was amazing to see the amount of joy and excitement that this week brings to the students at OIS. The matches played showcased the students’ teamwork and spirit. This spirit was especially evident in High school, as the seniors brought great enthusiasm to close off another chapter, this time with their final sports week. This has definitely been a week to remember, and we can only thank the PE department for such a wonderful event.
